It's always sad when a member dies. I had to look his stats up via the Friends section to recall who he was, despite participating in some of his threads

This is a sign of how difficult, for me at least, to keep with all of our Friends despite our relatively small size as forum

I note that he hadn't participated since 2020, was that a sign that his health had deteriorated or had he simply "moved on" to other things as they say

Mike

RIP Jon.

My condolences to all those who new him well.

He had many friends here on FADU.

Jon was definitely a character.

However, he was also a heck of a printer and won a prestigious Europe wide competition for once of his prints.

There is a copy on FADU - search for Jon Butler in the Gallery. It is named "47 - Three Trees - Jon Butler"

I knew a photographer with the same name but I'm not sure if it is the same person. What are did he live in? The one I knew came from the Tonbridge Wells area. He was instrumental in coaching me for my ARPS some 43 years ago.

Such sad news to hear that John has died. All those whohad met him, been in contact with him or have seen his work cannot help being impressed by his photography. He did regard himself to be more of a printer than a cameraman but either way his results were top draw. On the various FADU outings he was always entertaining company; a committed Londoner we could, after a day out with the cameras, always look forward to a lively evening debate in the bar. I think Stephane's comment after one trip to Hartland Quay gives a flavour of the atmosphere.

What do you get when members of the Kingdom of London, the Cornish Independent Party and a few peasants from other rural areas of the wider Island come together for a weekend? Well lots of fun, great discussions and endless of fantastic oppurtunities for photography including wet feet.

No prizes for guessing that the Rt Hon Member of the Kingdom of London was John and the the Cornish Independent Party is Neil. John will be greatly missed

Tony

I never knew Jon, but my condolences go out to all those who did.

Indeed, his print of the '3 trees' is both exquisite and inspirational.
