Cheaper to buy?
Hi,
Good point Ian, I will be more expensive than £5... but hope to use the chance to hand finish, use really deep borders and radical mouldings to be individual. Of course it may also be possible to modify shop bought items anyway, like the bunch of charity shop frames repainted by the previous poster's daughter-in-law... I'm will report honestly in several months time... Robert |

In the past I've had my frames made for me, the profile was cut specifically from Sapele which I stained myself. My exhibition set of frames is about 70 frames mostly 20"x16" with 6 30"x24". The frames came with no glass or back, however they were supplied at cost, the glass from the suppler likewise the backs.
So when you make your own frames shop around for glass and backs as you can save quite a bit that way, and its a lot easier than cutting for yourself. I've use Lion in Birmingham since about 1986/7 they used to be close to where I worked, 5 mins walk. Howeverthere's a local supplier who is a touch cheaper. Ian |

Going through this at the moment to start getting them on our bare walls rather than in boxes. I daren't add up the costs.
Has to be done though like you said Marty. |

Happy update
Hi,
Luckily I had a bad cold and couldn't pick up the mitre cutter I was about to buy: my uncle has one I can borrow no problem! Will keep you posted! Robert |

I notice that Lion can cut and mitre mouldings ready for you to assemble, for a very modest additional cost. I may go down that route, as mitre cutters seem quite expensive for occasional use.
