Default Dungeness

I am planning a trip to the Dungeness area in Kent at the end of July and would appreciate any advice on the photographic opportunities (and restrictions) in the area along with any recommendations regarding B&B accommodation.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards,

Mark

Hi Mark, there is a number of good B&B’s in the area. New Romney is close by and has several. Just Google New Romney B&B’s. As for Dungeness, no real restrictions, be careful where you park, and try not to disturb anything. Despite its distressed appearance, it is still a working environment. Good luck with the light and try the Pilot Inn.

hi Mark

I go down to that area quite a lot
i normally stay at The Gallivant, in Camber Sands
a few miles from Dungeness
really nice restaurant and hotel -maybe expensive depending on your budget but they are very good

the whole area is very photogenic

It is a while since I have been there, but you will require a good pair of walking boots because walking on the shingle is hard work and trainers do not give very much protection should you stumble or or accidentally kick a larger stone.

Near the Dugeness power station there is a cafe attached and run by the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway (15" gauge) the food was very acceptable and the 1/3 scale locomotives(approx) modelled on full size designs are photogenic in themselves.

I have many B&W images from there taken using a 20mm wide angle lens, I rarely used anything longer than a 35mm. A lovely area but a bit windswept.
