Default old lens

Hi guys.

I found this amongst my friends stuff.

Any ideas?

To me it looks like the sort of lense that fitted on to the old cameras that used a black cloth over the photographers head.

Does it belong in the bin or a museum?

I found this which might be of interest to you.

Definitely don't bin it!

It may surprise you but many people are still very interested in these kind of items. Does it still work?

Here's the pic from the post in the large format photography forum, just in case you're not a member.

Standard lens for quarter plate. I had a 1920s Ross Xpres in an American shutter same focal length and an Agfa Solinar similar.

Large Format Lens, English made, I would guess from the 20s or 30s, for 1/4 plate and worth keeping, don't bin it as people still use these lenses and they are well worth preserving,
Richard

I would not say Ebay, if you want to get the best price try some Classic Camera dealers to see at least the worth of what you have got,
Richard

Where might I find a 'classic camera dealer'?
Might there be a couple on this forum?

Thanks for that Richard.

I have contacted 'collectable cameras' who have identified it as being fitted originally to a Butcher's plate or rollfilm camera, c. 1915.

They are not interested in aquiring it themselves but have suggested I put it on eB@y and expect £10+.

That's better than bining it and it should go to a good home.

Dave.
