Scanned transparencies, without any adjustment, have a distinct appearance compared with digital images because of the shoulder of the curve. I can guess the source when comparing the highlights of scanned Ektachrome transparencies before 'correction'. I saw an exhibition in Albi, France, of fashion photographs taken in the sixties and seventies by Jean-Marie Périer. They had all been adjusted, probably to correct for fading. And they were glorious.
