Default Leitz masking frame wanted

A bit of a long shot this one but I'm after one of these for use with a 1c enlarger. The version I need is the one with the locking mechanism beneath it so that the easel can be locked in place on the baseboard. From what I know they seem to be mostly made from wood, unlike the later metal frames, and have slot cut outs on the underside for coupling purposes.

Default Leitz or Kodak or ...?

I've been told that Kodak and possibly someone else made a similar masking frame that couples with the 1c's baseboard. If you turn the frame over and fine long slots with rounded ends cut into the bottom then that would probably do the job as well.

Ha, pressing the wrong buttons... sorry.
At first I misunderstood it, looking for spare parts and such...

Anyway, what size do you need? They are made in at least two different sizes, as far as I know. The bigger one about 30x40cm, the smaller around 24cm the longer side as far as I remember.

Either size would be fine, Martin.

I'll do some phone calls. There might be a chance. I will know tomorrow, I think.

These actually appear on eBay UK quite often. I saw one recently. I think it went for around £40-50. They are wood and black metal with large round knobs for moving the blades.

There is a version on eBay at the moment. It's a more modern one, but sounds like it has the locking feature. It's £69 and in Alloa. May be worth a look.

Bad news, from three wood-based Leitz-easel-owners I know of, I got two "only from my cold, dead hands" messages (although both are using more modern easels mainly). And the one in 'my' shared darkroom is suddenly "THE thing", after asking around, who actually is using the easel (it's the smaller version, 18x24 cm - 7 x 9.5 in). Certainly, there is still the Leitz-effect around. Sorry, that I can't help.

By the way, all three are two-bands-easels. Leitz made the pro version (4-band) mainly with a metal base. But one of guys I phoned with told me, that Leitz also produced some with a wooden base and the relevant grooves for the locking mechanism of the Focomat enlargers.

In any case, good luck!

Thanks for trying, Martin. Guess I'll need to keep an eye out on the auction site.

Hi Bruce,

If everything else fails contact Kienzle in Germany. They may have something in stock as they service enlargers of various manufacturers. If they can't find it and if you ask them, they'll probably make one for you. Keinzle could be expensive though (- at least their enlargers and easels are).

Bests,
Ashfaque
