Default Snow scene

There is another problem in this image which may or may not be apparent in the print and that is directly above each of the fence posts there is a increase of negative contrast. This film was developed in a JOBO rotary I wonder if this has any bearing on this problem.

Ver4y nice prints John, I do like the spanners, but you have done a great job printing, Like Terry, it is very rare that I print lower than 2, and I always use a condenser enlarger, highest for me is g3, mostly 2 or 21/2, as you say, this MG5 is indeed a very good paper indeed

Default Contrast

As I find it easier to print using separate filters rather dialling in the colour I think I may continue to use the M60. than I think I may have to modify my processing. I am thinking of reducing the ISO by 1/3rd and decreasing the developing times which should give me a softer image but with full detail in the shadows. I may be slightly over-developing anyway.

This never happens with colour.

Terry's comments on your prints cover what I was going to write.
Terry you need to stop reading my mind

I take it you are using the new filtration suggestions for MG5 have you tried using MG4 settings. there is a difference in the contrast I think the MG4 is slightly softer.

You're closer to the truth than you realise! It was just a matter of time to find out who's mind I was reading.

This may be a cross purposes response from me but where do I find the new filtration suggestions? Are these ones issued by Ilford? I had looked at the change in ISO speed in the old MGIV and the new MG5 and as I said before this indicates that that Ilford statement of needing to double exposure when moving beyond grade 3 needs to be modified and a move from grade 3 and above only requires may be a 10% increase in exposure

The replies I got on FADU suggested that in theory at least my conclusion was correct but I cannot recall anyone confirming from experience whether this is now the right increase in exposure or at least close to the right increase

So has anyone who is using the under/over the lens Ilford filter tried a grade above grade 3 on the new MG5 paper and if so what was their experience of how much extra exposure this requires?

Thanks

Mike

Default Filtration Values

These are the same as the old ones. On the leaflet in each box/packet the values are the same.

I feared this was probably the answer,John, so we are back to our own devices and experience for the answer so if anyone has such experience to impart then please do

Thanks

Mike
