Unhappy Film holder slide material

Does anyone know what type of plastic material the slides in a film holder is made off. I have a number of wooden 8*10 holders, some need repair to make them light proof and some are missing the slides or the slides are damaged, I have the gear and experience to repair the holders and make the slides but it would be nice to use the original plastic or close to it.

Delrin is commonly used for dark slides.

Default Thank you

Thank you Ian, this is a good starting point, hopefully I can find a supplier in Hobart or nearby suburbs in Tasmania.

Default Light leaks in film holders

I have a quantity of of wooden film holders and have not used or tested them yet.
If anyone has used the old wooden film holders and had light leaks, where about did the leak occur, the flap at the bottom , the sides or the slide opening at the top. Warping of the film holder body.
My present thinking on fixing is the use of light seals used in film cameras, particularly in the area of the bottom flap or the sticky backed flocking similar to that used in jewellery boxes as i have found this useful for mirror buffer padding in film cameras.
Any insight would be appreciated and useful, thanks

I have seen 3 different materials used for sliders on film holders.

1) Delrin.

2) Carbon Fibre

3) Aluminium sheet (used on my most recent Toyo film holders)

There is a balance to be struck - not too thick that it messes up your felt light traps but not too thin that it allows light to leak around the edges of the darkslide/film holder slot.

You might want to measure the thickness of your existing film holder sliders and see if you can find anything close in a suitable material.

Good luck

Martin

Thanks, Martin, that gives me something to think about, especially as I have more wooden film holders coming.
