I started my database in Paradox, then Db3 or 4 then switched to Approach when free before it was taken over by Lotus. Approach is still around.

I found a website operated by Brian A Keen. He has created a database, using Access, and published the tablets/relationships on his web http://www.briank.co.uk/WebsiteInfo.htm
He is using it for many different purposes, more than I need.
I will simplify it and see how I get along.

I did not download it, I created the tables in the same way that he did. I still have to create the forms for data entry, but that is not complicated.
The fun part will be to create queries to extract the data.

The Queries are the easy part it's the forms for data entry that are harder so that you can populate multiple tables.

I've found a 2004 copy of my Photocat Access database and opened it using the ODBC driver in Libre/Open Office Base. My initial problems were that when Star Office baecame Open Office and until quite recently Base had poor handling of table relationships. That was fixed a year or so ago and now it's a good free alternative to Access.

This is the Relationship schematic. (Not sure why there were 2 Exposure tables - I'd guess the particular file was a work in progress).

The Photocat database was for commercial Photography hence the 3rd Table which was the Clients address details.

There are quite a few other tables, these are/were used to automate adding data - things like film type, chemistry.

I rekon you could spend all day filling in forms for a single roll of film and for what.

It's very useful to have some kind of record of what you shot, where & when etc. Of course it also depends on how prolific your output is as well.

In my case most of my work is LF so it's relatively easy to input but some is 120 in 4 different formats 6x4.5, 6x6. 6x9 and 6x17. My negative filing sheets are marked with the date and locations and this is what I input multiple frames at a time. What is more important is the frames selected for printing, exhibition, my portfolios etc, and I have queries to pull up that data.

The data entry is quite quick and easy. It would take me longer to write it in a notebook and be far less useful. When I was asked to put on an exhibition at a Canal boat festival I had to select and re-print images from two bodies of work, having the database made it very much easier and faster.
