Default Greetings from Northumberland & Prague

Hi everyone,

I have been lurking a bit recently but signed up fully today!

I started my photographic journey some (few) years ago when sensors existed, but not in cameras. About 18 months ago I came back to the analogue world with the purchase of some nice s/h cameras (to many for one human being according to my wife) and am 12 month into developing my own B&W and C41 35mm and 120 negatives.

So far the journey as been absorbing, educative and fun. My darkroom is a portable set up, wheeled into the bathroom, utilising various plastic container water bathes and a useful small cellar room for loading film. Developed negatives are scanned but here's the thing, this hybrid approach gets me back to digital where I'm spending too much time at a computer and not producing physical prints - my creative efforts largely reside hidden on a hard drive (plus the various back up copies of course!).

So an impending house move means I have a whole internal room to set up my photographic man cave and make sure I can run a complete analogue workflow.

I am looking forward to the next few months and sharing some of my experiences and will certainly be availing myself of the fantastic FADU expertise, experience and enthusiasm.

R, Car Mad Dave

Hi Dave and welcome to FADU. I take it that you use Foma products for at least part of the year

Hi Mike,

Fomapan 200 a little, but that's it. I should use more as it's pretty cheap in Prague. Other good priced (compared to U.K. and Europe) stock I get in Prague is Portra and Acros 100. Having said that my poison of choice is FP4+ (120), Delta 400 (35mm and 120), Adox Silvermax (35mm), Ektar (120) and Portra 400 (35mm and 120). I have dabbled with Bergger and some of the Rollei offerings (CN200, Superpan200 and Infrared), even shot 2 rolls of Cinestill 50 in 35mm (over priced / rated IMO).

Default Welcome

We certainly need more traditional photographers to keep our following alive. I dislike the term of 'analogue', everyone knows the term digital so we don't need the term 'analogue'.

Northumberland and Prague are far apart and very diverse. I have never been to Prague but was born and grew up in England's most northern county and I know what I like.

Hi John, ultimately we are photographers so I agree, labels not needed.

Prague is very different to Northumberland. It’s also very photographer friendly and well worth a trip if you ever have the option.
