I typed 'Bronica SQ-Am repair' into Google images and it came up with a few ideas - perhaps this is somewhere thereabouts - or you may do the same and find the images that match? Good luck with the repair Alex

Alex, here's a link to the SQ-AM repair manual:

http://manualslibrary.net/BRONICA-SQ...AL-REPAIR.html

User manual here:
http://www.butkus.org/chinon/bronica.htm
Maybe a little quirk or tip in there that would help.

Good luck with this! Wishing you patience and steady hands if you take a crack at opening it up.

Svend

Thanks Tony and Svend. These links look useful.
Svend, have you used the Skeinplay service that has the repair manual? I only ask because it appears to be free, but you need to create an account and register a credit card before you can download. The site gives an explanation for that, but I'd like to hear from another customer before giving out my details. I encountered problems before with an internet media distributor called Donnaplay who also did manuals.
Having said all that, I'd be very keen to get the download! Let me know if you've dealt with them.
Thanks,
Alex.

Alex - I've never dealt with them, so can't vouch for their legitimacy. I'd be careful giving out your credit card to a "free" service. Perhaps post a new thread here asking if anyone has an SQ-AM repair manual to share with you. And seriously -- try sending a PM to Bronica Jim . Perhaps he can help you.

Re. the user manual, I have used Mike Butkus' site several times before for vintage camera manuals, and it is truly free and open. In exchange for his service to myself and the photography community at large, I have donated to him via his Paypal acct., but that is voluntary and not req'd to get a download. If it helps cover his costs and a bit of his time and keeps the site up, then I'm happy to do so. It's only fair.

BTW, Butkus has apparently experienced people downloading his manuals for free, printing them and selling them on eBay for their own profit. Thumbs down to that.

Sorry I can't be more helpful...

Svend

Alex, have you looked at these pages?

Plenty of very clear pics of Bronica guts. Maybe some relate to the SQ-AM and your problem?

I used some Flickr posts to help me with a DIY CLA on my Franka Rollfix. Very helpful, they were. Hope you find something....

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I found some useful information in the various links. Having considered everything, I've decided it would be best to have it repaired by a specialist. It was quite expensive, and I would like to have it back in full fitness. I'm not averse to taking things apart, but sometimes they don't go back together very easily!
I've posted details of a repairer who has specialist knowledge of Bronica in the 'Equipment Miscellaneous ' forum, in case anyone needs it. Thanks again,
Alex

Very sensible Alex. Taking apart a simple 1950's folder is one thing, but attacking a complex Bronica with motor drive is another matter entirely. One little spring goes Sproing into a dark corner never to be seen again, and you're sunk. Glad you found a good repairer for it there. As far as I know there is no such person in Canada, and only one in the US (I could be wrong on that). This has had me passing up several very nice Bronicas for sale here at great prices. Too bad, I'd love to try one for a while.

Best,
Svend
