What is this?
I have been doing a bit of clearing up and in the bottom of the original box which came with my Rodagon 50mmAPO lens there was a square plastic sleeve. On it was the wording 'Rodenstock' and underneath 'Konterring' which I know id in German. Below that is the English translation Counter-Ring'
The ring itself is plain black, with a thread on the inside which I think is 40.5mm. I haven't measured it but the thread looks the same as a filter ring. On one side of the ring are two keyway slots, and that is it. No explanation what it is for. Any thoughts? |

I think this is for fitting the lens to a lens board that is unthreaded. You poke the lens through the hole and fit the ring to lock it in place

John -- I speak German.... Bill has it exactly right -- it means retaining ring. And yes, it's used to hold an enlarger lens to an unthreaded board, usually in a rebate so the ring sits more or less flush with the board. I use one for my Componon on an old Beseler board on the 23CII. Don't toss it!

Retaining ring
I don't need it for my current enlarger but it will go back in the box from whence it came. (I rarely throw anything out much to the annoyance of she who must be obeyed) -It might just come in useful!!!
