Default Hot, Heat

Too hot to venture out to try and make images. In Las Vegas NV, it is 115 F, not sure what that would be in C. Will be like this into September.

Jesus God.
That's 46C.
Today we had 14C, which is 57F. Going for a swim tomorrow to celebrate our version of a heat wave. Sea temperature about 10C. Yummy.

I've lived with this in Turkey you go out as or just before it gts light make your images and retreat as the day gets hotter.

I did a pilgramige in the steps of St Paul to Ephesus where he prreached, a 2½ hour walk from our apartment and then later well int rhe 40º's Celsius as I was leaving. It also meant I was there long before all the coaches full of tourists off the cruise ships

Not wishing to turn this into a "British weather" chat but in a few days only we seemed to have moved to "Lost Heat" situation

A few days ago I was hiding inside from the heat outside and now I am hiding inside from the cold outside.

However on balance these days, I'll happily forego anything above about about 22-23 degrees C

You can always go our pre-dawn and use that lovely pre-dawn/dawn light in the desert.

The air is much cooler at that sort of time too but you need to have your shots planned out as the temperature quickly rises - so you only have an hour or so each morning after sunrise to get your shot.

However, if you missed the shot today you could pretty much guarantee it would be there tomorrow - there isn't a lot of variation in their weather - unless you caught a thunderstorm - which is absolutely spectacular (and potentially dangerous) in the desert.

When I used to test cars for a living and I spent weeks and weeks of my life each year in Phoenix, Vegas and Death Valley testing cars air conditioning.

The heat out in the western deserts is in a different league to anything we experience in the UK.

Some years ago my wife was complaining on the phone how hot it was in the UK - more than 30C (85f) and then I explained it was just about got down to 40C (102f) with me in Death Valley and in a few minutes it would start to warm up when sunrise occurred.

To remain hydrated you had to drink about 1.5 litres of fluid every hour during the day - which quickly becomes very tedious.
