Default Another UK newbie

Hello. Like many, a long time reader and high time I registered to contribute a little after all the useful stuff gained from here.

Retired since 2013 after full careers in HMF (RCT) and the Civil Service (DSA). Took up photography more seriously in 2005 and after progressing through the digital world I developed an interest in stereoscopic and film (35 & 120) photography. I now develop my own film at home with Pattison kit and more recently a Lab-Box with 35 and 120 modules. Hovering over investing in the new Intrepid enlarger and, at long last, stealing the bathroom for another purpose to delve into this recently acquired addiction further

Edit: my current film camera lineup includes: Leica M2; Microcord TLR; Minoltas: Dynax 9; Dynax X700; Stereo Realist and a couple of drawers of old all sorts in various states

I answer to Brian and look forward to joining in with the forum. (Active member of Dyxum.com as “bonneville” since 2007)

Welcome aboard Brian.

Ah yes, the repurposed bathroom - we've probably all been there!

Have fun, Bob.

Hi Brian,

Welcome to the forum, from a Minolta user in neighbouring Cambridgeshire, hope you enjoy your time here.

How ever long you have hovered Brian, welcome to the forum.

And when you think you know everything you need to know about something, something new will pop up to educate you that little bit more.

Enjoy.

Welcome, Brian. My father was one of your predecessors (RASC) back in the day.

I have seen reviews of the Intrepid enlarger and it looks really interesting - stripped down to bare essentials but the lightsource and controller are really interesting.

But I don't think the tripod is a very clever idea. For around £65 you can get a new Meopta copystand or plunder an old Meopta enlarger - many are being given away, often with lenses. The Intrepid prototypes suffered vignetting and poor grade 5 performance. Lina Bessanova's opinion is really valid - she lectures in phototechnology and knows what she is talking about.

Thank you for warm welcome all.

I agree, tripod repurposed for vertical stuff, particularly heavier equipment isn’t ideal. But I do already have a good base and adjustable vertical column with a lightpad that I use when digitising negative film with a Sony a7iii and Sony FE 90 f2.8 macro lens to transfer to Lightroom.
(I suppose that last sentence will have me banned on my first day )
Whatever, the Intrepid enlarger should happily fit on that stand, but it doesn’t look like they have their production in full swing yet. Still, I’m only 73 so I have plenty of time

Welcome Brian. Everyone of us on FADU is likely to have had an experience with a film, camera etc that may be a unique experience in the sense that none of the rest of us have had and I am sure you are no different.

It is that unique experience that each brings that adds to the collective knowledge that makes a forum worthwhile.

It's a cliche but a true one that a good forum is greater than the sum of its individual parts.
