First of all - welcome Jerry.
The link you supplied is very interesting to me because I have a Vivitar enlarger using a halogen bulb of 19V / 80W that's absurdly expensive here in the U.K. The bulb wouldn't win any prizes for longevity either. Unless I can find a supply at a realistic price I'll have to scrap the enlarger when the current bulb expires, so following your example would mean I have everything to gain and nothing to lose. I'd even be using less energy!
