Evening, all
Dear All,
Sorry for just jumping in earlier to some existing threads. I suppose I should have introduced myself first. This looks like a nice, civil sort of forum where I hope I'll feel at home. I felt I couldn't decently greet people as a new member, at least without introducing myself, but it seems a lot of people are joining. My grandfather was a keen amateur photographer, but he was killed on HMS Gloucester off Crete, well before I was born. His son, my father, has very little interest in photography but kindly bought me my first camera in 1966, with the rider, "If you're serious, you really need to develop and print your own photographs." So he bought me an enlarger and developing tank as well. It's sort of gone on from there. My attempts at earning a more respectable living (law degree, 1973, articled clerk at accountancy, teaching...) fell by the wayside. I started as a professional photographer as an assistant in a London advertising studio in the mid-70s. Now I'm a paid amateur. Well, what else can you call someone who takes pictures (and writes about it) for a living? There's more about me (and my wife Frances, and many aspects of photography) on www.rogerandfrances.com. Or there's the back page of AP (except one week a month) or Land Rover World. Cheers, R. Last edited by Roger Hicks; 15th January 2010 at 10:43 PM. |

Hi Roger and thanks for the intro but I'd be amazed if anyone with even a passing interest in photography hadn't heard of you or read at least one of your books.
Glad you could join us. I think you'll enjoy our style here and feel at home. If you haven't managed it yet, I do hope you can get to the Manx GP in any August soon( better, cheaper and more relaxed than the T.T.) A long way from France but it's a true biker's paradise. Mike |

I have read several of your books which have really inspired me to pursue photography. Your website has such useful and practical guides that' s really help me on several projects. You have joined the ranks of fellow minded enthusiats who love and enjoy sharing their expertise, wisdom and passion. Glad you've come on board! Larry. |

Hi Roger,
I wondered when you would find this site; Welcome and I am intrigued….. Land Rover World; don’t tell me that you are bitten by that bug as well? My Discovery 200 TDi is like using my Nikon F4! Both tanks but do the job marvellously. David. |
