Default Sinar Users in Cambridgeshire?

Hi

After 30 years of photography I have finally leapt into the world of LF photography.
The basic but nearly mint Sinar F and lens arrived yesterday.
I would love to meet up with anyone for a tutorial and shoot sometime in the summer -there will be a pint in it if we meet near a pub!

Andrew

I owned and used a Sinar Norma 5 x 4" with a 150mm Symmar, Compur shutter and Fidelity double darkslides in the sixties. I've tried a Sinar F and it's probably easier for still life/packshots. Even better would be Sinar's special interlocked shutter! Send me a PM and I will arrange to drop by on my way to/from Kessingland in early July.

Congratulations Andrew on your step into LF. Sinar are excellent cameras, very competitively priced on the 2nd hand market and plentiful spare parts and accessories. I too have and like the behind the lens shutter.

I have the Auto-aperture shutter for a Sinar system and pretty good it is too. Mainly for use with Sinar DB lenses but useful for old brass lenses with no shutter.
(I've attached a pdf about the one I have.)
The only downside is the extra weight to carry around, especially out in the field, which is why I don't use my Sinar these days.

Hi,
Among the other cameras I have I use a Sinar Norma kit. These cameras are modular. I recently used the shortest rail that I have with bag bellows, a 4x5 back and a 90mm SA. Mine came (second hand) with two extension rails, extension bellows, a Sinar Copal shutter and an 8x10 back. The whole thing is mind boggling! The Sinar Copal shutter that I have is really designed for studio use as the fastest speed is 1/50th of a second, but it goes down to 8 seconds if I need it. ND filters and slow film are a help, but remember that this shutter enables you to use cheap but quality barrel lenses that were sold without shutters and are difficult to fit into shutters. If you buy one make sure that the cable release comes with it!
Pete.
