Default Padley Gorge and the millstone quarry.

A bit short notice I know but I'm planning a visit to the Peak District next tuesday, 13th December. Padley Gorge and the old millstone quarry are the highlights. I'll be in the café at Grindleford station from about 10:30 for one of their excellent breakfasts before heading up the hill. I'm going anyway but anyone's welcome to join me. It's quite rugged walking so bring suitable footwear!

Will see what's happening next week, no promises though

It's nearly 30 years since I last photographed there, I've some excellent 5x4 images and I think it's where I first used my Leica M3 after buying a Summicron from Harrisons in Sheffield.

Nice shot, Ian. Lovely subtle brown tones on my screen. Are they really there or is it my screen? I ask that because I saw another print here whose warmth I remarked on but no-one else did.

Anyone else detect a subtle but quite clear warmth on their screens?

Not looking to divert the thread but I didn't think another thread was worthwhile on this matter.

Thanks

Mike

Rob, it certainly looks a great location and it's the sort of place that should work well for you in any light - have a great day.

Neil.

You've seen quite a number of my prints from Exhibition sets first hand Mike and commented at the time on their quite marked warmth at the time

The scans match the darkroom prints in their warmth, this particular image would have been made on Record Rapid before Agfa removed the Cadmium processed in Neutol WA or Ilford ID78 then selenium toned to kill the greenish tinge and quite a noticeable warmth.

You could easily spend a full day in grindelford station cafe photographing all the passive-aggressive notices up on the walls inside. Regular visitors will know what I'm on about.

Hi Rob, Hopefully I will have picked up the Bronica SQ that harrisons in Sheffield have for sale over the weekend so it would be a perfect opportunity to try it out, that's if I don't have any interview that day. If I am free I will definitely go but will confirm on Monday.
Thanks, Luke

Thanks Ian. It would seem that heavy metals are both a blessing( in paper) and curse( in sardines on toast)

Unless we were poisoning the planet in producing such papers it does seem a pity they've gone

Never been to Peak District. Would love to go one day! Enjoy Rob, looking forward to see some of your prints from there here on FADU!

They only need one sign, Pay, eat, drink, then leave as quickly as possible without contaminating the premises with you presence.
