Default Durst M800 Bulb

M800 users. What bulb are you using in your enlarger? The manual suggest 150 watt. Will a PH212 150 watt 120 volt (us) work? Or do you use a lower wattage bulb? Thanks, Robert

I use a 150 watt mains bulb but run it through a RH Timer off a 12v battery and 500W Invertor to get a stable voltage. A 150W, 120V bulb won't be as bright?? (longer exposures) but should otherwise be OK if it provides even illumination.

Have you ever thought of converting it, that is if it found to be necessary, and using an LED bulb. There are so many different ones out there now with all types of bases large and small screw, bayonet, twin pin, the list is quite extensive.

I am using an LED bulb with a large screw base in a lamp on the bench in my darkroom to judge the colour balance when I print colour RA4. Although it is only rated at 13w the output is far better than the previous 75w blue. It is actually the same size and shape as the one it replaced. The actual colour temperature is rated at 6500 degrees Kelvin. A little bit cool perhaps but better than the blue tungsten bulb I was using.

If you can get a bulb that will fit, the added advantage is LED's run a whole lot cooler so you should be able to use a glassless negative carrier without risk of the negative 'popping' in the heat - there is non!
