Default Lith paper in 2021

Hi All,

First post so bear with me if this has been asked before.

I am about to restart darkroom printing after being out of it for a few years. I used to do a lot of lith printing, but it looks like paper choice is now vastly reduced in that department.

What are the current papers that are still lithable? Is there a list somewhere?

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark.

Can't help directly but I know some of our friends here do lith so I'm sure they can help.

Have fun!

If you have a look on the AG Photographic website they mention that,

"Fomatone MG Classic is well known as an excellent candidate for the Lith printing process. 131 Gloss and 132, Matt."

Not used it myself but have had it in mind.

The best place to check out the latest list of papers that work for lith, is by going to Tim Rudman's website. You can also sign up for his email updates of materials there:

I thought Tim Rudman was the man on this topic and that he brought out an updated list of lith materials for subscribers to his newsletter?
Anyway I can only find a pdf from 2013 but it could be worthwhile either dropping him a line yourself or perhaps someone else here on the forum has a more up to date version.

Foma 131 is very good for lith and it is quite warm/pink in tone. Slavich papers are also very good for certain negatives - they’re at the other end of the spectrum, very gritty/cold.

I’ve also had good ‘lith-like’ results from Ilford’s Warmtone fibre paper through normal processing followed by bleach & re-development, as described in Tim Rudmans lith printing book (not easy or cheap to find these days, unfortunately).
