Welcome Michael. Maybe you should photograph the bird seeing as it likes you

I presume we're talking about a 'marten' here rather than a 'martin' which is a small migratory bird. In the UK we have the very rare pine marten, a tree-living mammal about the size of a small cat. They have the highest level of protection and are very rare. I'd love to see one but wouldn't want it living in my darkroom roof! I think I'd prefer it to the wasps I had in there a few years ago though.
Welcome to FADU. |

Oh I see yes, small rare mammal not a bird. Too many new years drinks! In any event, shoot the thing with a camera not a gun

A positive about the Marten, you won't see any Mice! Think of it as a Cat that you don't need to feed!

Sorry Michael. I too had assumed it was a bird. I should have looked more closely at your correct spelling and wondered about its droppings being a problem.
Here's hoping that when you ask about a problem with a C41 film I do not start to advise you about a traditional B&W one Mike |

Welcome, an old method of catching a Pine Marten is to lean a length of 100mm dia. x 1500mm-2000mm plastic pipe against a wall or fence at an angle of 70-90 degrees. Leave a bait trail and put some at the botton of the pipe (bread and jam) works well. Put the pipe on a rock or tile so the Marten cannot dig itself out. Put a hessian bag on top of the pipe when the Marten is inside tip the critter into the bag and release it back into the wild. Wear welding leather gloves they have a real nasty bite.
