'Get Carter' is a great film (and soundtrack) and I see he was the cinematographer on that. Top class photographer who I wasn't aware of.

I echo your sentiments, Tony and neither was I aware of his connection with "Get Carter". Somehow the colour had that cold, almost bleak look which echoed its ambience. Colour often detracts from the atmosphere and feel of a Film Noir but not in this case I felt

I can still recall the dialogue at the race track between Jack and the yet to be discovered killer, Eric Paice.

"Grey suits you, Eric" etc

Thanks for the link, Collas

Mike

Many thanks for posting this.
I read the Guardian obituary. Yet another prominent artist (he was content, apparently, to call himself a craftsman) whom I had never heard of but who had a most interesting life.

A bit of serendipity. This morning I received the July 1952 issue of _The miniature camera magazine_, which I had found on eBay the other day. My first glance at it threw up this nice letter from Suschitzky about Cartier-Bresson. A very modest piece of writing.

Thanks very much for sharing that, Michael.

I had to squint a bit to read the attached image. But it was worth it! I loved the parts about Cartier-Bresson using the whole negative and how in producing and assessing photographs one should not see perfection as the be-all and end-all.
Instinctively, I applaud all of that.
