Default Cable Release Adapter

I have recently bought a Nikonos V camera which doesn’t have a cable release socket. It does, however, have a B setting, and a tripod socket. I plan to use it for foul weather photography, which is never that easy with standard 35mm cameras. I’ve ordered one of the adapters that has a belt and Velcro to hold it in place. The cable action seems to simply push on the shutter button. Has anyone tried one of these? Are they any good? If so, they could also be useful with many 35mm compacts that lack a remote release option.

Alex, I used one with a Sony NEX-3 which, apart from not being a film camera, matches your scenario in all respects. My adapter has a bracket design, adjustable by sliding bolt fittings. It works perfectly adequately. I think it came from FirstCall.

A long time ago I had one of these, made by Kaiser I think, and for me it was a problem, first few times not to bad, but it would not fit tightly and at times would slip during the exposure, later the velcro got to the point that it woud not fasten correctly, I would not reccomend it for long term use, I later got one of the firstcall adapters and although more expensive to buy was worth every penny, it lust did what it said on the box, highly recomended

Thanks, Michael and Richard. I’m sorry I never asked first! I have the Firstcall catalogue, but it never occurred to me to look. I’ll see how the Velcro one fits, although it sounds like reliability will be the issue.

Fret not, Alex. I put mine away safely in the garage when I stopped using it and it's yours if you want it. Just got it out and it looks as good as new.

One of the things I like about Firstcall is that they carry a lot of hard to find bits and pieces
