Warm Tone Re-Developer
This is for those that like warm tone prints.
I’ve just tried some of Peter's Prescysol warm Tone paper re-developer with encouraging results that I attempt reproduce here. I first cut a test print made on Forte G4 FB paper into three parts, and left the first as it emerged from Agfa Neutol WA developer. The second section was processed through the warm tone re-developer, whilst the third had 5 minutes in selenium toner which gave it a very warm tone. I think the second stage gave me very acceptable results. I’ve also tried Foma R/C paper in the mix and found it gave comparable, if slightly more muted results. It seems to me to be a very useful product to have in the darkroom, and one I think I shall be using quite a lot of. |

Remarkably similar to bleacing in a dichromate/HCl bleach and re-developing in a Pyrocatechin based developer.

What's remarkable with the similarity?

It's a very neglected area Dave, even the toning Guru, Rudman hasn't (or hadn't) used Pyrocatechin Bleach/Re-development toners.
However Ilford published a formula of this type in the Ilford Manual of Photography in the 1950's. It is an extremely good way of getting warm tone images from cold tone Bromide papers and it's also very different to other toners. The degree of warmth/colour can be changed by altering the type of re-halogenating bleach used and varying the balance of the Pyrocatechin developer. This type of toner becomes eve more interesting when used with a Warm-tone paper. Mac |

Just goes to show that there's nothing new in this game! I'm just glad that I can now buy it ready mixed when I need it.
