I got to use a bit of P30 in the old times. Would love to try something like it again. Hope this project comes out all right.

I wonder if any of our sponsor retailers will decide to stock it? The price will be interesting, given the drop in the GBP against the euro?

I was one of the first three backers of their initial E6 project, which for quite some time looked like the only hope we had left. Fuji was discontinuing films left and right and Kodak stopped E6 films entirely. I remain hopeful that I'll see some film some day, and if not, these investments do come from the "mad money" purse...
I guess I'll pick up a few rolls of their P30 - not much to loose and if it helps them...

Interestingly there has been quite a bit of good news recently about film. Ektachrome, Ferrania P30 and slide, Bergger. There seems to be little doubt that various film makers believe that film may have turned a corner in terms of customer interest.

Well there was this idea that all pre-digital stuff was doomed (in various fields/industries). Happily, people have realised that it is not that simple. It is not that we can travel back to the analogue world, just that analogue tech has a place and value. Customers follow value.

Return to 'proper' photography
Quote:
I am actually at a crossroads in which direction I wish to take. It is largely down to cost. My enlarger costs very little to run. Colour paper is cheaper than inkjet paper whils B&W is about on par. Whereas my current printer for my digital side has had to be replaced three times in as many years at a quite considerable cost. Not to say anything about the cost of having to replace the computer and scanner when they eventually die, plus. Then you have to add in the cost of the ink. I think in the next 6 months I may find myself abandonning digital for all subjects except family pictures where I have to E Mail copies to family and friends Although film is quite expensive now I have always chosen my pictures carefully and the wastage I incur is very little. Plus there is a certain aesthetic quality with silver based images that digital has never attained. Interestingly an ex eork coleague of mine who now works in the legal business, has just told me that at least one police force in UK has returned to using film for crime scene pictures so there can be no allegations of manipulation or falsification of images presented in court. Simply because the negatives cannot be 'fiddled with' as easily as digital. Now that does make sense to me. |

More news from Ferrari in the run-up to re-launching P30.

The first issue of my subscription to Photoklassik arrived here this morning; and a small news item announces that the first "alpha" batch has now been signed (see Collas's post earlier today) and distribution should start this month.
It goes on to say that some problems found during beta-testing are now resolved (scratching and contrast problems are mentioned). Ferrania will be asking for feedback from users. |

I was just about to create a standalone thread for this but saw this post and had to reply.
I've organised a community interview with the team at FILM Ferrania. We're taking questions until March 26th - ask away! http://emulsive.org/articles/communi...your-questions
