Hello Geoff,
I'm a Thornaby lad, living near Pickering now. Welcome to the forum and good luck with the darkroom. Mine is in a shed as well. Not very warm at the moment! I like your idea for a solid enlarger bench. If you are short of any darkroom gear let me know. I have a few spare items given to me by friends who have gone digital, and will be picking a few more items up next week. If I have what you need you can have it free of charge with pleasure. Hi Alan,
Thank you so much for your very kind offer. I have only made a hand full of prints in my bathroom and only in B&W. I'd love to comfortably make B&W prints from both 35mm and medium format. Maybe try my hand with colour when I get my darkroom set up. I really don't know what I need equipment wise other than what I've read in books and on FADU. I currently have a kit that my wife bought me for Christmas a few years back from First Call photography. It came with three trays, a tank and two reels, tongs, two measuring cylinders, a squeegee and two film clips. Other than that I have my Meopta enlarger which was £30 from Stokesley car boot sale I'm quite excited about my new project and hope it will save me a little bit of money in the long run. I called Jessops the other day and asked how much it'd cost to develop a roll of 120, the told me £11 and they'd have to send it away. Kind regards, Geoff. |

Welcome to the forum Geoff.
You will know if you have Newton's rings as they show up on your prints. I speak from experience! Anti-Newton top glass usually cures the problem. Bill |

Welcome Geof I like Dave's idea too. Another idea is to lay flooring grade chipboard for bathrooms screwed to the exsting floor. It will also stop any drafts coming through.

Thanks again everyone.
I actually used the glass from an old clip frame because that's all I had to hand. I found out some time later that it had to be a specific type of glass. Geoff. |

Hi Geoff and welcome to FADU. I live in Northallerton, not too far from you and also have a shed darkroom. It is fairly rigid and I have never had any problems with it flexing. The biggest problem with sheds is the temperature in winter and keeping the dampness out. Regarding the meopta enlarger, I always used the glassless inserts in mine, which are obtainable as an accessory and never had problems with lack of sharpness.
