Default Paterson safelight - query re plug

I've just acquired a s/h Paterson safelight but the plug on it is designed to plug into a light bulb fitting. Is it possible to simply snip this off and replace it with a 13amp three pin wall plug?

Thanks in advance

Yes that's ok but you must fit a 3amp fuse.

Cheers Jon, really appreciated. Thanks for such a quick response too. All set for my first darkroom session for around thirty years at the weekend now!
Regards

A word of warning - The older cylindrical ones will fog some papers after extended exposure. Keep it a good distance from your work area and keep the exposer to the red light to a minimum. The later domed safe lights are better.

I have a couple of the older Paterson lamps, and they are OK for around twenty minutes with the papers I use. It is only when doing extended lith development that it becomes a problem (30 minutes or more).

Thanks Paul That's worth knowing. I sense I shall need to get a new one once I've got my head around the basics again and sessions start lasting longer.

Dave,
I have a couple of the older Patteson safelights, as long as you stick to the pygmy lamp and keep the light at least a metre from the paper you should be fine, I have mine on the wall high above my developing trays, wired into my RH designs analyser/pro and even with Kentmere VC select, a paper a lot faster than most, I don't have a problem with fogging, the trick with any safelight is to keep exposure to the minimum, and keep the safelight as far away as possible, so unless you are going to keep open boxes of paper for lengths of time then it should be fine

Thanks Richard. Much appreciated - wall mounting will also save some valuable worktop space too.

I had a break from serious printing between 2000 and 2004, a mere 5 years - not 30 like yourself. You will be surprised just how much you have forgotten. I have never recovered all my previous skills with B&W which is why I now print mainly in colour. I will keep trying though

That intrigues me. I never dabbled in colour back in the day (late 70s, early 80s) on the basis that it was, to me at least, very complicated. Has it changed considerably in the last thirty-odd years?

I'm working on the basis that everything I THINK I remember is wrong . I processed two 35mm films yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it so looking forward to the darkroom experience.
