Default Starter advice

I want to start a darkroom in school where I work, and I just want to buy multi grade paper and general developing for film and paper same with stop and fix. I quite like using ilfords stuff in the past, but that was years ago. Can anyone advise me on what to get thats cheap and does the job, and were to get it from ? also any work sheets for my students to make it easy.

thanks

Indeed Silverprint has an excellent range of products to meet various budgets. You may even be able to set up an account and if you ask Martin nicely enough you may even get a student discount........opps I never said that

Hi Mark,

Not too sure what you mean by work sheets but Ilford have some documents on the basics of film developing and making black and white prints as well as other helpful documents at the following: http://www.ilfordphoto.com/applications/page.asp?n=9.

These may give you a start.

For paper Silverprint do a Proof range, limited in contrast range but cheap as a starter. Try here: http://www.silverprint.co.uk/Product...asp?PrGrp=1197

Have a look at the thread on new photographic retailer here on FADU for developer. If budgets are tight and I imagine they are then you'll get a litre of Kodak D-76( same as Ilford ID11) for 99p at that site. It's a powder as well so keeps forever until it is made into stock and carriage should be reasonable.

Best of luck. It's nice that you are attempting to get youngsters into analogue photography. A school darkroom involves learning about group dynamics and interaction which are useful skills. The other kind of photography tends to be "solitary" in front of a computer.

Should be banned in schools on these grounds alone :

Mike
