Default Black + White mag subscription offer

In case anyone's thinking of subscribing, I thought I'd mention a good sized ad in The Observer I came across the other day:

Subscribe & save 40%!

1 year (12 issues) was £47.88. Now just £28.73

Call 01273 488005 or www.thegmcgroup.com and quote order code A2545.

Although as they produce 13 issues a year and the sub is for 12 issues it's not quite a calendar year. Anyway, just in case etc etc... Offer ends 31 January 2011.

Thanks for posting this Simon.

The magazine does still do some analogue features and if you not experienced the publication this offer is good if you want to trial it for 12 months.

Neil.

I have actuay bought the last 3 issues, I see some improvements towards being a more "image led" magazine rather than a clone of AP/PP. If they would only stop the blessed camera and scanner reviews.
So, I have taken the plunge and used the tesco vouchers before they go from 4x to 3 x

I bought the latest issue as it was a still life special. Prior to that I had not bought one for 2-3 years.

Actually it was'nt that bad and struck a reasonable balance between being a 'how to...' mag for beginners and a fine art mag for the more experienced. I don't expect it to place an emphasis on analogue techniques as it has to survive as a mainstream publication, but analogue was not ignored.

I might even make it a new years resolution to send them some prints!

I let my subscription lapse in October after getting the mag for nearly years. I used to enjoy the mix of technical and artistic articles and particularly enjoyed the printers art. It went downhill after Ailsa left and it became another vehicle to sell digital equipment, the big hint was the tagline about being 'dedicated to modern monochrome'.

BTW, I've got bound copies of all issues from 2004 to 2007 (approx) going free to a good home if someone want to pick them up from my house in darkest Cheshire?

Looking trough the last few issues I'm suprised it's still called 'Black + White'...... should be more like 'Magenta' photography magazine !!

Litho printers, eh.... Oh hang on, I'm supposed to be one of those..... It comes about by having the black made up of the exact right amount of cyan + magenta + yellow + black. Over or under do any of those, and you end up with a colour cast. Good game, good game.

I believe the colour cast is tipped towards the brown to be sure of avoiding having a green cast, is that correct, or just another urban myth?

If they could only be consistent in that, but I have seen almost purple photos (some lesser form of porn I gather).
