I for one can't wait. There seems to be conflicting views on the RRP when it is released, some say it could be as high as £1500 or as low as £500... I personally think it will be about the £750 mark... fingers crossed!

I suspect that it will launch at much nearer the £2,000 mark than £1,000, because the Bessa bodies are generally priced at around £800 and the reason the Japanese brought Voigtlaender name wasn't to enter the bargain basement market. However the economic climate may make them lower their expectations – just a little.
Since it is to have an battery dependant electronic shutter I suspect that it will eventually be less desirable on the second-hand market than if it had been fitted with a mechanical unit. For all that a new medium format camera is a very welcome move, and astute marketing; no one won a race by following the crowd. |

It's just turned up on BJP's blog 1854.eu. It looks a beaut, no price as yet, hope there's more in this weeks issue.

Naughty but nice.
I don't need one, I've got a great Mamiya 7 ll kit. I doubt I will be able to resist the temptation to buy one though. Looks a great bit of kit, I just love RFs. Regards JON.

Why would anyone buy this camera?
Its hailed as a pocket medium format camera. Well it weighs 1Kg, That's the same as big bag of sugar. How often have you walked about with something that heavy in your pocket? So your going to have to put it in bag aren't you. Then take a look at a Mamiya 7II. The fuji is bigger than a Mamiya 7II without its lens. They weigh the same. Put an 80mm lens on the mamiya and it weighs only 0.2Kg more than the fuji and is marginally bigger. Does that matter, after all, you are going to have it in a bag. So whats the difference between them? Well the Mamiya and 80mm lens can be had new for significantly less than the fuji. The mamiya has a range of lenses available for it. The mamiya is known to produce very high quality images and lens is not waving about on the end of an arm. I just don't get what all the fuss is about. Can someone explain in rational language. Maybe its the auto focus that sucks them in. Well if that were the case I think I would look at a Fuji GA645 Zi instead and get zoom and save myself a lot of money or buy two backups.

Rob, when did rational thinking enter the marketing man’s vocabulary? Your comments regarding it’s weight are valid to a point, and that point is that as a folder it can be stuffed into any convenient space; which may or may not be a pocket. I have a 1950’s Balda 6x6 folder that possibly weighs about the same and that wasn’t a barrier to the market at that time.
As I’ve said before, I think that Fuji are to be congratulated on marketing this camera. Whilst I won’t be buying one, very much for the reasons you state, I think it will sell in quantity around the world and thereby generate film sales and business for the few film processing labs available. The fact that most users will then scan their films and print digitally is lamentable in my view, but at least it’s a halfway house. When is the 6x9 version due, because that could get on my wish list? |

I can see that I'll be hanging on to this after all ...
Also has two film formats, 6x6 or 6x4.5 - internal flaps and automatic frame counters. Of course it's only a Tessar and I have to guess my exposures.
