Hello from the wild west... of Wales
My name is Mark Walker and I am an ... ooh, sorry wrong forum.
Hello, everyone. I have lived in Cardigan for 4 years with my family having moved from Devon where we lived for 12 years... and Rochdale before that and Staffordshire, Dudley, Halifax, St.Helens, Liverpool, Nottingham. I've been shooting, developing and printing black and white - which is my (almost) exclusive area of interest - for the past 31 years - since I was 15. I recently constructed my first permanent darkroom which has freed me from from digital oblivion. I have a Sony A900 - lovely camera - but I also have a Rolleiflex 2.8C which I prefer. Now my darkroom passion can really flourish after years of temporary setting up and packing away, but I know Lee Frost did that so I can't complain. To be honest darkroom work is far more satisfying and rewarding than watching an inkjet extrude from a box full of pixies working overtime, and is a place where I can feel more expressive with my output, using my hands to create something other than by pushing a mouse around. So yes, I've had a digital foray and sell prints from it, but now I shall be in the darkroom and shooting alot more film than in the past 4 years for myself and to bring back more silver prints to the galleries here and hopefully show some good work. I just printed 40 odd 7x5's of my children from 10-15 years ago in the darkroom in a couple of hours, I just could not have been bothered to do that on the computer, even if I could find the files. Enough said. |

Welcome Mark. I always think of film and darkroom work as having the attraction of the "I've made this" quality which the other kind of photography would fail to deliver for me so I have no interest in even attempting it.

Welcome Mark and I can sympathise with your problems of temporary darkrooms. I spent 40 years in the RN with short periods actually in my darkroom(s).
Nice feeling when you eventually have it there all the time! |
