Welcome John, I used to have an MDF panel fixed a window in an unused bedroom which I converted into my darkroom. But then I out did you by having the window removed and built up. Its in the back of the house so I don't mind.
Enjoy yourself here.

Vincent

Welcome John,
Giving up vintage radio – Now that brings back memories of accumulators and EEC82’s and EL84’s….
That’s like saying I will give up film!
David.

Nice one, Vincent! A permanent solution - no mistake! Now David, I guess you are right, trouble was, I never seemed to have enough of the right stuff, in spite of having over 200 valves, many old, unused and boxed, I still had to pay £22 for my last project for a newish replacement!
I didn't do the 2 Volt accumulator stuff, being a fan of octal based onwards, but Ah! the ubiquitous ECC82, from test gear, telly, to thousand pound amp, and EL84s? I got those off Ebay from Russia! All now sold, unfortunately... only about another 10 items to dispose of! I have to pay my Ebay film photography bill somehow!

Barry,
I can remember using Mullard data sheets before the transistor ruined? High quality audio amplification – now circuits like the ‘5-20 amplifier’ and its ilk command lots of money.
Funny how one can see the parallels with photography (see it was not off topic) we just become an esoteric bunch of luddites and then the world awakes and like vinyl – we are off again…..

David.

David.
Now this really is O.T., but talk of valves reminds my of an early domestic task I was assigned in 1949, that of valve changer for our new 8” Pye television. Valves burned out so frequently that we left the back off the set all the more quickly to gain access, and avoid missing too much of the limited broadcast. My Saturday job was going to the local radio shop and collecting replacements, and yes, most were Mullard valves.

Thanks for the nostalgia all! It looks like I have a buyer for all of my vintage stuff (I will retain a 30volt psu workshop megger and DVM)
Time for me to post in the main body, I think.
