I have two Symmar 210s, an older convertible, and a more modern version. They are both good. I had intended selling the convertible when I bought the later model, but having read the review, I think I should be using it more.
Thanks for posting this Norm. Alex. |

I have a Rodenstock Geronar 210 that I bought new for not a lot of money, so was pleased to see that it did well amongst its more illustrious cousins when stopped down to f16 or more. Thanks for the info Norm.

I have a few 210mm as well as two 203mm lenses, by far the best is my 210mm f5.6 Symmar S. I have a 210mm f6.8 Geronar, essentially a modern multi-coated Cooke triplet it's as sharp as the Symmar at f22 but softer at teh edges.corners at wider apertures so makes a good portrait lens.
My third 210mm is an f6.3 Osaka Commercial (Congo) which is a Tessar design and quite compact this is the standard lens now for one of my 7x5 cameras. Lastly I have two 203mm f7.7 Ektar lenses, one British made in a Prontor SVS shutter, the other a very late production Eastman Kodak version in a "Graphic" Compur #1 shutter. The US one is more practical to use as the Compur shutter has a preview lever, both are very sharp and being Dialyte design are excellent at all distances from Infinity to 1:1. Kodak sold them for general use as well as medical and industrial applications. I use one of these lenses in my light weight LF kit along with a 90mm f6.8 Angulon. Ian |
