I had no idea it still had as many labs as it does.

I'm surprised they stayed in the game so long - no-one associates Boots with photography any more. For one thing, the photo section is usually right at the back of the store and from my experience the staff don't appear that interested or knowledgeable. They must be making a huge loss on it. From what I can see, other high street options (eg SnappySnaps) seem to offer better/friendlier/more specialised services.

Boots in Scotland were offering film, including B&W, where few others do. It will be a loss here.

Default Boots minilabs

To be honest I cannot blame them and infact I am surprised that they lasted as long. Most of the work they would handle would have been from family 'snappers' who now use their mobiles to catch family moments, whilst more discerning would have gone to more dedicated labs.

My old village has a sub post office with it's own mini lab and apart from the few films that they now take in over the counter, they also act as a central point of contact and take in work from other busineses who used to have their own service. This means the minilab they have, is still viable and profitable.

Interesting that you should say this Alex. We had a great long week-end in Glasgow a few years ago and I think that prior to going someone here directed me to Boots as a source of film and I now recall how well provided one of the Boots in central Glasgow was compared to any of the Boots South of the Border I had seen.

If Boots stop stocking film it will be a real problem for film users over here who use film in smaller quanties, as boots is the ONLY place in Jersey that you can get it, we have no photography shops, and only one large electricatel retailer sell cameras, only digi, I have been mailorder for the last few years, since Jessops bought out the best photography shop in the Island, the only shop that sold the only one that sold darkroom supplies, and then drove the other 2 photo shops out of business, then jacked their prices up and stock down, then went bust themselves, so I can only hope that our Boots keep their mini lab as if it goes then not only will we be unable to buy film, there will also be no where to get color film developed

I'm making the assumption that no Labs means no film. I hope I'm wrong about that, but I had noticed that one of the large stores near here was already discounting film a few weeks ago. It didn't give a huge saving, but brought prices more into line with the online traders. It wouldn't make a difference to me as I shop around online, but for the low volume users, or those looking to try film, it's not very good. It's amazing how many people would never think of looking for film and other supplies on the internet. I checked Boots website today, and they're still offering a good range of film at their normal prices.

BOOTS in Brentwood, Essex is NOT closing !! Good News !
the Photo Technician there is the BEST in the whole of Southern England I reckon -- he 'knows' Photography and can tell teh difference between a Cyan and a green cast and produces great prints and clean negs ( He also helps people with their Dreaded Digital Stuff )
