I've long thought that it needs a "lounge" like most similar sites, where people can simply socialise and chat about off-topic subjects. It fosters a friendlier atmosphere .

This has been discussed before, but Dave felt that it could lead to arguments with certain topics and decided not to allow this type of sub-forum.

I think I need to remain neutral on this one.

Whilst I fully agree with Richard as there are many who have helped me greatly over the past couple of years on some technical points and making decisions on equipment to buy and I really value their help, but there are a couple or so, who I find really irritating, so here I am a little hesitant.

I do favour meetings as there is a chance to get to know more in terms of conversations and ask questions. I think it true to say we are too thinly spread through out the country for this to me practical. Locally I am still tryimng to find a pub where half a dozen or so of us can meet up to spend the odd evening chatting about our hobby and comparing work and ideas. I am certain that my persistance will be rewarded eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later!

Yes, this is the major problem. These kinds of general forums tend to go rapidly South on a regular basis as inevitably a few people with strong views on assorted socio-political ideologies take umbrage.

I would strongly suggest that the status quo be maintained and take my general stand that: "if it ain't broke - don't fix it" ...

Cheers, Bob.

I agree with this; the one thing about FADU is the almost non existence of any sort of acrimony – may it long continue.

David.

I agree with Daud that the absence of acrimony is what makes FADU a cut above other sites.

I think the idea is great in theory. But its a sad fact of life that a small number of people (especially on the Internet) are incapable of a having a good discussion without either getting aggressive or taking umbrage. This was one of the reasons - amongst others - that I stopped visiting the Leica Forum. A small number of indivduals were a pain in the butt. And that included some of the Moderators!

This forum is a much more civilised place.
