Default Izal Ruminations / Cabin Fever

Went to the beach today on the east coast thinking it would be good to get some exercise and fresh air. There was a mobile "Fish & Chip van", on the sea front, lots of people with dogs and kids, more than in the summer holidays. Took a couple of snaps from a distance and went home. Choose your walks with care, it's crowded out there!

A bit of humour in these dark days. Anyone remember the days when toilet paper had 2 functions? It was called Izal, and was available in my junior school. We used it mainly as tracing paper for map copying for which it was excellent. Given its tough hard-wearing properties only the brave risked using it for its alleged primary function. Them's were the days

I could feel the 4 self made Yorkshire business men Monty Python sketch coming on as I wrote

Izal had three main functions when I was a lad.

1/ Tracing paper.

2/ Rough and smooth toilet paper.

3/ If you held a piece flat against your comb, put it against your
mouth, paper side to your lips and hummed against it , you had a cheap and cheerful kazoo.

It has to be the Izal or something similar in order to work. Try it yourself and annoy the wife.

LOL! My kids were having this conversation only recently. When I left home in the 70s it was my paper of choice (we also had soft stuff cos the wife hated it). We kept this his ‘n’ her toilet paper going for several years and my eldest two girls still haven’t forgotten the experience

“When I say a house ...” Happy days!!

Default IZAL paper

From my dim and distant recollection, it replaced cut up squares of yesterdays newspaper, but that was serious a retrograde step. The non shiny side was about the same as 1000 grit wet and dry sandpaper. Good for car bodywork repair finishing before spraying, but not for it's primary intended use!

It was a great tracing paper. All my map tracing paper was thrown in the bin years ago but I am willing to bet that if I had kept them then I could still use them to trace out the UK, France etc

It was the analogue system for schoolboy and girl map reproduction and it made you do it. It was good fun as well and gave you that "I made this" feeling

I remember that it was fairly useless for its intended purpose - way too smooth and shiny!

If it was too smooth you had it upside down

Maybe we should have a thread on whether to shave with or against the beard's growth direction.
