An introduction to my work
Having visited the site for a few months now, I thought that it was time to show members the kind of work that I do. The easiest way for me is to direct members to German Fine Arts who represent my work. There are now 69 images to view - the majority are from 2010/11 with some old favourites thrown in.
33 images are on the sales page: http://shop.german-fine-arts.com/d-s-allen.html 36 images are in a new virtual 3D gallery. You can 'walk' around using the light grey arrows, using the various icons or can click on the Tour button so you can just sit back and let the computer do the work. http://www.german-fine-arts.com/berlin.html Best, David.

Introduction
Thanks for the feedback.
Would welcome more comments on the photos. It's always good to get pictures 'out there' even if only on the web. Best

David, I think some of your compositions are very strong and you seem fond of using a low viewpoint to create converging verticals and triangular negative and positive shapes within the frame. However, I am indifferent to some of the subject matter, but this may be because I am not viewing the actual prints and can’t fully appreciate the mood you are trying to convey.

Introduction
Hi Clive,
Thanks for your comments. Low and high viewpoints have been with me for a very long time. As a child using an Exa 1a with waiste-level finder, I noticed that people in the local camera club could always recognise my pictures because of the viewpoint. This was then followed a few years later by having friends who lived in tower blocks which I loved photographing from. Generally, I find it very hard to verbalise about my work but essentially I love cities and try to create a cool apparently detached view that belies the fact that through viewpoint, angle and composition I bring essentially disparate parts of the city together to make what I hope are strong dynamic images. Well, as I said, I am no good trying to verbalise about my work (it always comes out as pretentious). The prints themselves are always printed on fibre paper somewhat on the contrasty side but with all relevant detail to be seen (rather like the late prints of Uncle Ansel). Perhaps a better way of explaining what I try and do with my photography is that I much prefer Friedlander as opposed to Walker Evans, Rodshenko rather than Charles Sheeler, Diane Arbus rather than Lissette Model, Arnold Newman rather than Richard Avedon. It is something to do with clearly seeing that the photographer has created an image (usually out of nothing in particular). Does any of this help?? - not sure but it is always useful to reflect on one's own work. Best,

David, yes that does help a lot. Sometimes it is often quite difficult to comment on someone’s work without any background information. The comparison of different photographic styles you site with the photographers mentioned, gives a better understanding of where you are coming from. Your images do give a cool detached view with strong dynamic shapes through composition.
