Default Hello from Cambridge (UK)

Hello FADU!

I'm Alex from Cambridge, I've been a lurker here for a good while but finally decided to emerge, if only briefly!

A few years ago I set up a darkroom in an a small (full height) cupboard that had previously been a sort-of wardrobe; I haven't used it much but recently I've had a bit of a resurgence of interest and got it going again.

The darkroom has got a Meopta Opemus 5 (the b/w condenser head version), 3 8x10 trays and not much else! I had to install a new (smaller) baseboard on the enlarger so it would fit in the dark-cupboard.

I've got a few 35mm and 6x6 cameras, SLRs, TLRs, rangefinders - some good, some less good - all of them 'not new' apart from the Holga :) Probably have too many but I suspect that's a problem that others on here might share.

My scanner is our of action currently but when it's functioning again I'll scan a print or two so you can see how amateur I am at all this!

Hi Alex,
Welcome to fadu from another cambrigeshire member. Hope you enjoy your time here.

Think there are as many types of darkroom as there are members, small, big and anywhere in between.

As for too many camera's, is there such a thing?

Ian

Hi Alex and welcome. Apart from the famous Nikon F6 the words "new" and analogue are practically mutually exclusive unfortunately

Hi Alex, and welcome. Your Darkroom sounds good. I like the idea of cutting your enlarger baseboard to suit your space. It sounds like a healthy combination of determination and ingenuity. You should join the monthly Print Exchange. It's a good focus to keep
you producing negatives and prints.

This is true; in some ways it is part of the appeal (for me).

I *did* toy with the idea of cutting the base board but decided that it would be better to find a new bit of wood, just in case I ever want to use the 'big' one.... probably need to get a new bigger darkroom first!

I had noticed your print exchange and I had considered it - I think I might need to spend a few more evenings/weekends sorting things out/getting better/more results (!) before committing to anything.
