Default Master Photographers Toning Book - reprint.

As many of you know, this book has been out of print for some time and has become quite sought after, commanding silly prices of hundreds of £ or $ on Amazon.

As the rights have now returned to me, I have been encouraged by members of FADU and 'the other place' to try and bring it back into print and so I have been researching ways of doing this and the good news is that it is now going ahead.

I have accepted a reprint quote from the original printer for 1,000 copies, which is the smallest run they will do. This should mean that the quality or reproduction should be exactly the same as the original.

I am partnering with Martin Reed at Silverprint for this venture. He will handle order fulfillment from there so that there will be no delays on shipping when I am out of the country. I think this is an excellent solution.

I don't have news as to a date yet, but it will be several months as we have to wait for a reprint slot and then bring the books by sea from the Far East.

The price will be the original cover price of £25 so you won't have to pay hundreds for it anymore if you want a copy!
However, as they want 65% discount we probably won't be able to afford to sell it to Amazon either so that is likely to be the final price.

I will bring more details when the time comes and also through my newsletter and I would like to thank everyone who encouraged me in this idea - it was through you all that the idea was born in the first place.

I am holding a mailing list here for those who wish to be personally notified.

Several people have signed up today to be notified, but of course we are a very long way from break-even point with 1,000 books so please spread the word Thank you.
Tim

Great news Tim. Hopefully a few speculators will not hear about this until it is too late and will then have to visit the fingers-burnt specialists :

Holding it at £20 is a two edged sword. Great for buyers but may not give the profit margin deserved. Even at relatively low inflation, the original cover price would, I think, be higher now in real terms and rightly so.

I have a copy but it strikes me that pubic libraries would take a copy and those colleges who still do analogue photography courses and qualifications.

There isn't any original copies in Northamptonshire libraries so I'll make it my business to request purchase of at least one copy.

Best wishes with the project.

At £20 it is indeed a bargain and I would advise anyone that hasn't already got a copy to add their name to your mailing list so that they may purchase one as soon as it becomes available. It's an inspirational book.

Thank you Dave and thank you Mike - I didn't want to be greedy and up the cover price, but of course we do have to buy 1,000. Although this is a small number compared to my previous book runs, they were publisher based with a good distributor infra structure. I don't have this so rely on word of mouth. If you know of other networks who might be interested please spread the word.
Thanks
Tim
