Default Fuji 100 Acros - first rolls

Hi All,

Had to get a couple of films in a hurry, and have got hold of a couple of rolls of Fuji 100 Acros. Sudden change of plans for the weekend, could throw up a chance to shoot a couple of rolls.

Only got Foma in my box, not looking for "old feel" this weekend

Never used it before, will be shooting at box speed. Looking for a few tips on developing

Have a choice of 2 developers D-76 and HC-110. Using Inversion method, Patterson tank 20c

Anybody use either combination ?

Anybody got tried and tested recipes and / or times ?

All advice / opinions most welcome.

Ian

This may be a redundant comment but just in case you are not aware of the news, this film has now been discontinued. A great pity. I have developed it in Xtol as 120 roll film and it is very good.

Ian, is it actually 1+38 you use? I only ask because I've never seen that mix mentioned anywhere. I do appreciate, however, that the published dilutions are merely the manufacturers suggestions which anyone is free to adjust to their own needs. I know you like to refine your processes, so guess you may well have arrived at 1+38 by testing.
Getting back to the question, I most recently used Acros 100 in Microphen stock. The results were excellent. I have only used a few rolls and only rated it at 100, with one exception when I needed 400. I think you will get good results with either of your available developers. I would consult Massive Dev for suggested times. It's an excellent film with very distinctive smooth tones.
Alex.

The 1+38 was suggested to me by someone I know who has been using HC110 for many years. I also questioned the 1+38 but he said, just go with it and wee what you think.

So far I have been very happy with the results especially for Acros and TRI-X

Thanks, Ian. I will give it a try. I’m thinking that 390ml will do for a 35mm film. I like to work with easily measured volumes of concentrate.

Hi Ian,

I've been using Acros 100 with D76 1:1 for years in 120 format. Prior to that, I was using Freestyle's rebranded LegacyPro 100 in 135; same thing, only affordable!
I've always used it at box speed and developed it for 10 minutes and 30 seconds as per Fuji's recommendation. Fuji also recommends continuous agitation for the first full minute, with five seconds of inversions each minute thereafter.
Any faults in the negatives have been my own contribution; the film and Fuji's instructions are both spot on for me.
With regard to Acros 100's discontinuance, the reason that is such a shame is because of it's incredibly low rate of reciprocity failure. If you're used to Foma 100, you'll be rather amazed by the Acros in that respect. You can leave your shutter open up to TWO MINUTES before giving it a second thought. Even then, compensation is on a minor scale compared to the Foma.
I have Fuji's data sheet for Acros floating around here somewhere and I'm happy to attach a PDF scan of it here if it will be of use to you or anyone else? Just yell!
Enjoy the film, it's lovely.

Molli

I develop all my roll films in a small Patterson tank. For the total volume, I use 600ml.

I wouldn't get to like across to much as it is discontinuted by Fuji, last batches have been shipped and by October it is another Fuji film that will be consigned to the history books, I never used Across, it was way to slow fo much of my photography, I need 400, but in the past I have used the long gone and lamented Neopan 400, and a lovely film, but as of now Fuji no longer make any black and white materials, film or paper, sad,
Richard

Thanks for all the replies, great info as usual.

Have a batch of stock D-76 that is getting towards a couple of months old, kept in beer type bottles, under vacuum, that could do with using so think I might use that.
