Default Improved supply on Foma

We haven't had the best supply of stock on Foma over the last 12 months, and this has been frustrating for us, and, of course, not to mention our customers.

But this is changing - we have an improved distribution arrangement in place and this means that, with immediate effect, we have excellent stocks now of

Foma 100, 200 and 400 - in both 35mm & 120

and plenty of 5x4 Foma 100 in stock, along with 5x4 200.

Improved supply of Foma paper is also in progress.

Matt

The big problem with Foma has always been distribution - it's a massive part of making something, actually getting it to the end user! It sounds easy, but it can be a major challenge.

Reading this reminds me that I think I have asked this question before, of Martin Reed, if I recall correctly. It was why did Foma persist in selling in 10s and not 25s as the smallest size or not selling any 5x7s or 8x10 .

I think the answer I got was along the lines: "Well, it may not make any sense to you but you aren't Czech, are you?"

OK it was said humorously but I read into it that it didn't really make sense to him either but that was just "Foma's way"

I don't suppose anyone has any answers but I am surprised that stockists haven't asked the question or may be Matt has. If so I'd be interested in the reply

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike, I get Fomatone 131 from Norway in 5x4/100. Great for small prints or contacts. It depends on the vendor, I guess.

Good news Matt but it seems to have shot up in price on the way. The last box of Foma 100 8x10 I bought from you was £99.95 now it is £135. The only saving grace is that it is now so dear that the delivery is free!

Best wishes

RR

Thanks Miha. 5x4 for paper is again an unusual size, at least in the U.K. but great for 5x4 negs.

You might be right about it depending on the vendor but I don't think I have seen any 5x7 or even 8x10 available from any U.K. vendor whom you would think would want to order those sizes for the U.K. customers.

That is true, it is more than it used to be, but:

- The prices have remained fairly steady, on our site, for around 12 months now;
- Foma have increased prices very considerably over the last 3 years;
- Distribution costs some margin, unfortunately, but necessary.
- The prices are still a lot less than Ilford
- £135 for 10x8 is almost half the price of Ilford - and, yes, you would get free delivery of course!

On the issue of 5x7 and 10x8 - It is available, but we need to buy quite a lot, and, unfortunately, in the UK at least, Ilford is so strong a brand, I think it would be a slow seller - Foma tends to be used for finer work and therefore the 9.5x12 / 12x16 / 20x24 makes more sense to stock.

That's good news for you. BTW, should anyone desperately need something special from FOMA which you can't get in your country, drop me a line and I'll try to help you. I've been arranging things like rolls of 532 nature paper and similar to folks across Europe for some time.
