Default Do you make every frame count?

When out and about photographing do you work around the subject taking multiple shots until you feel it's right or do you make one exposure and move on?

It varies, sometimes the right composure just jumps right out at me and I just take one photograph. On other occasions I take several shots especially when I am not sure which will work the best. Also it depends on which format I am using, I tend to take more photographs when using 35mm.

I don’t think there is any set answer to this question, as sometimes you may make a single shot and for others you may make several. It is also very dependent on the type of photography and subject matter.

I generally take several shots of an interesting subject. It's amazing, however, how often the first shot is the best!

Depends on the subject how many frames I'll use. I make an honest effort to get it right as I see it in my head. Honestly if possible I try to take the time to get it in one frame. Success rate? Anybody's guess.

I agree. And the best shots are on the heaviest camera - the one that takes longest to set up. I don't have one but I can understand why LF photographers shoot so few negatives. It's the discipline, you see...
And it's great to have an opinion from the other side of the pond!

Thanks for the welcome.

I am a cheap SOB and hate wasting money. So I do my utmost to assure the first one is good. I have a Nikon F5. ONE TIME I used the high speed capability. I could not let go of the shutter fast enough. Man that thing will eat some film quickly.

If using a tripod it's one exposure. Hand-held it can revert to spray and pray...

I walk around seeking out the best angle and then make one image (well two from the same position if I am exposing at 1/30 or less).

However, as you can see on my website, I only photograph examples of urban architecture - so my approach is somewhat subject driven.

Bests,

David.

Depends on the camera, the subject, what else is going on, my mood etc but very broadly speaking if I think something worth photographing I take a minimum of 2 exposures.
