Thanks Paul - I had not seen that one before.

Quite amazing how fully integrated they were back in the day - raw materials come in and a finished product goes out - hardy a single item bought in from third parties.

[Edit: speaking of which, I just noticed in the credits: "Music performed by the Eastman School of Music ..." ]

Then they discovered by farming it out to various sites. saved them money but charged us more for the privilege

There used to be a Kodak factory in Kirkby merseyside, i grew up just over a mile away from this plant, it closed in 2006 down due to Digital
Another sad loss

Most interesting and thanks for the link.

Lot's of dangerous unprocted machinery and lovely chemicals - not a face mask or glove in sight :-)

A great and interesting video to watch!

I'm sure it and other manufacturer's plants have changed a lot over time, but I was amazed at how much that had to be done by hand at the time.

It was also great though to see how much could be done 'in house'.

Interesting video. I presume that from the "light sensitive period" onward what we saw was a simulation of the process done in full light for the purposes of showing what went on in either total darkness or special light. So I was a bit surprised that the film's narrator didn't say that it was a simulation nor did he make anything of the fact that a lot of the operations rely on operators whose skill in the dark has to be exceptional

It was the era of the all encompassing giant company where in some cases it was literally the town or city's "father" with similar status as head of the family and with due deference accorded it.

Interesting narration style. It reminded me a bit of a Walter Winchell type of delivery.

He was the one who opened each made-for-TV "Untouchables" episode in the late 1950s although it was the 60s by the tome it made it over here.

Characterised by short, staccato nasal bursts. " Frank Nitti, known to the mobs as The Enforcer" with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra in the background.....
