Delta 3200
I am going to shoot this film @1600, having never used this film before I was wondering what the best developer to use, I dont want coarse grain.
I have 510 Pyro, ID11 and Rodinal to use as well as Standard Ilford film dev. What is the consensus of those who are familiar with developing this film and shooting it at @1600. |

D3200 to my eyes does have noticeable grain and there is no real way round this. It is in the nature of high speed films.
I suppose it all depends on what each user classifies as coarse grain. It can also depend on the conditions of the scene as well DDX and Xtol both do a good job at 1600 but allegedly Microphen gets the maximum speed from such films although I have yet to try Microphen with it Mike |

There are no magic developers.
MicroPHEN is a Phenidone-HQ-Borax developer. You may use any Phenidone-HQ formula with mild alkali. Ultrafin Plus comes into my mind. It is Dimezone-HQ-Sulfite-only. Dimezone is very similar to Phenidone. But even D76/ID11 should give decent results. I don't recommend Rodinal: It accentuates the grain and you lose half a stop. From my experience, Delta 3200 has around ISO 1000. I have goo experience with Atomal 49, but the dev has its peculiarities. |

I've never used Microphen with Delta3200 but in the past got good results with stock ID11/D76.
I say in the past as I haven't used it for many years (I did live jazz in pubs with it) and found some in the bottom of the fridge in both 35mm and 120 recently long out of date and intend using it up this winter. I have plenty of D76 in and possibly some Microphen. Being old stock I'll bracket exposures.Got plenty to play with doing that. |
