For Black & White I never found that much difference between the 47 or 47B. Mind you I only very rarely used them when I did landscape work generally to emphasise a more 'old world' look.
If I remember correctly, the 47B was marketed for graphic arts work and could also be used to create the 'trick' of taking 3 identical shots on B&W film using Red, Blue and Green filters mounting them in slide mounts and then using three slide projectors with the corresponding filters over them to project the 3 B&W images to create a full colour image on the screen. Generally, the main filter that was almost permanently on my Ektar f/7.7 203mm was a Wratten 12 - the so called Minus Blue which, in my opinion gave a much better rendering of landscape than using a normal yellow, Yellow/Green, Orange or Red. These days, working with Delta 400 in 2 bath developer, I find no need to use filters for my work. Burning in of the sky is only necessary for a particular 'look' or to compensate for the variances over the sky area that result from using a 65mm lens on 6 x 7 film.
