Hi Paul,

I had a job finding one too so eventually made one from craft ply which worked well for a few years. Then I acquired a spare De Vere 6x7 insert and cut / filed that out to the 6x9 size. Both versions work very well, but obviously the modified De Vere insert 6x7 is to be preferred.

There are a variety of De Vere negative holders on ebay just now, including an adjustable one.

Some say theirs will fit all De Vere's, but I don't know.

They are also priced at just about reasonable, up to ridiculous prices, so take a look and maybe make a purchase.

Paul, I spent a long time trying to find a 6x9 mask without success. In the end I bought one from Odyssey Sales but it cost £60 inc postage.

Thanks Barry. 60 squids isnt far off what folk are asking on fleabay for used inserts! Worth considering if the DIY job doesnt work out.

Paul,

If you make one out of modeling ply finish it of with a very fine paper then apply a few coats of dilute PVA to seal the ply. Then finish the job with a couple of coats of matt black.

I was luck about 3 years ago and got a good selection of masks at a Camera Fair for less than £10, unfortunately I off-loaded the spares.

In my garage I have a couple of sheets of aluminium bought specifically to make some inserts for my 5108 negative carrier, which I must get around to, I need 7"x5", 6x17cm and 9x12cm masks.

As I mentioned to Paul on teh UK LF forum I've made card masks in the past and that's what I've been using for some years for my 6x17 negatives. Mounting board impregnated with wood hardener (similar to Super glue helps rigidity.

That's what I thought Paul. If you decide to get one from Odyssey call them on the telephone, they are very bad at responding to emails.

Paul,

You could have had my spare ply DIY 6x9 inserts if I hadn't recently modified then to take 6x12 !
