Default LPL 6700 enlarger query

I recently acquired a LPL 6700 enlarger and have just got round to setting it up. I got a new bulb from ebay (a 12v 100w generic one) and it all powers up.
The problem I have is its not very bright. When I have a negative in it its so dull I can't actually see the picture no matter how far open I have the lens. All the filters are turned down to 0 and when checking the bulb it is seated correctly and extremely bright with the top cover off.

I am wondering if there could be something wrong inside the head causing this or maybe I am doing something wrong?

Thanks
David

Hi David, I presume you've checked for physical obstructions to the light path?

Then I'm curious to know which negative format you're printing and which diffuser light box?
Basically a big diffuser light box say 6x6 for printing a relatively small 35mm negative will loose significant light.

No obstructions from the diffuser down. As far as I can tell the head part with the diffuser does not come apart it just has a small hatch to change the bulb. There is light coming from the diffuser part but when I put a carrier on and then lens not enough comes through. I am used to using my Durst B/W enlarger which is a a lot brighter.

And you're using the correct diffuser box for the format?

Also some enlargers have a lever for a kind of nd (neutral density) filter is there anything of that sort?

Yes it has a White focus lever which is supposed to bring the filters out of the light path and make it brighter but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Well I have taken it to bits and the light path from lamp to diffuser box is clear. The Colour filters are not working very well and look like they could need greasing due to lack of use.

The only other thing I can think off is the bulb is not correct. The new and old bulbs look the same and both say 12v 100w with the same fittings. The new one is unbranded one. Not really sure what to say now.

I am wondering if I can fit the C7700 head on instead. Doesn't look like I can and the transformer looks different.
