Default Working with Auntie

Rather than an achievement as such, I'm writing this as a bit of news because it's a step forward for me and one more bullet point on my CV.

I had the pleasure yesterday of spending the day at the BBC studios in Bridgend where they are currently shooting a new series of "Upstairs Downstairs". You might recall the successful series from the 1970s that ran for several seasons and sold widely abroad. This is not news in itself as it has been in the press for some time. They have written three hour-long feature episodes that will air in December.

My role in this was to shoot some stills a la Cecil Beaton and instruct the actor in how Beaton would have held and used a Rolleiflex. Using my 1933 Rollei with wireless flash was a challenge indeed, but collaboration with the various arts and graphics assistants was huge fun, as was getting to meet new folks, from make-up to sparks.

I'll be on a beach in Uruguay when episode three goes out at Christmas time, but maybe you'll catch it and be able to tell me all about it !! Otherwise I'll have to wait for the DVD.

Certainly is good news, must fascinating to see how the BBC work. I guess there are are a lot of people involved; how many assistants did they give you?
