Default Hello from Cornwall

Hi,

its an interesting road to have found myself back on, developing and printing my own b/w is something i last did maybe 30 years ago in my Dad's darkroom with a very basic skills set (i.e. i'm a teenager, i wont listen to anyone and i know everything). so in effect, and a fact verified after starting reading the ansel adams book, i'm starting from scratch!

i'm guessing like quite a few people i struggled to even give away darkroom kit some years back, luckily i kept all the cameras and its a very eclectic collection ranging from zorki that my dad bought in Russia during the 70s, 1960s pentax and nikon, a mamiyaflex, and some point n' shoot rollie and olympus trips. I'm also on the look out for a Nikonos for some water projects i have in mind.

for the printing i am slowly rebuilding a basic set up and enjoying the process of discovering the options and then hunting down nice used items at sensible prices. i'm almost there, found a nova tank on ebay recently that solves a lot of space issues for me and yesterday in a local shop a very nice meopta opemus 6. a print washer and safe light are now on the want list. of course where to set all this up in a house without the space for a dedicated dark room is another story and the wife has already told me that i can neither use the bedroom or chuck one of the kids out their room.

welcome to fadu Gavin it always amazes me where people can setup darkrooms ,don't forget that David Bailey started his photography in a coal bunker in his basement ,and he has done well so i hear ,i would go for the chucking the kid out of the bedroom ,i have my own darkroom now but i used to use the kitchen at night it was a pain but i did this for years ..... good luck

An insulated, reasonably strong garden shed can make a good darkroom.

Hi Gavin and welcome to Fadu, good luck with the Darkroom, I also use a Meopta Opemus six, very well built and will last a lifetime. as for a darkroom, there is always a garden shed, if fact there is an article in the articles section about building a darkroom in the shed

Welcome Gavin. You look to be well on your way. Pity about the wife and kids but there are always some snags
