Default Hello from Northern Ireland

Hi all,

My name is Michael and I live in Northern Ireland - on the beautiful north Antrim coast.

I was into photography as a teenager in the late 1970s - I was lucky enough to have a weekend&holiday job in the photographic dept of a local chemist's shop which helped with the cost of materials and kit. My first camera was a Zenit B but quickly progressed to the slightly more elegant OM-1. But my career beckoned and processing took a back seat - I did the digital thing but it left me cold and I find myself attracted back to film. I'm shooting mainly 35mm but also do a little 4x5 - hopefully more LF as my confidence grows.

So I'm just getting my darkroom sorted after a very long break and so far so good - spend a productive few hours there this morning. Living where I do access to s/h gear can be challenging (not many sellers are willing to ship enlargers, understandably) so for some reason I've ended up with a beast of a DeVere 507 floorstanding model. The running gear has been tightened and re-greased and everything is running smoothly. I have it screwed to the wall using the brackets at the top of the 7 foot column and as anyone who knows these enlargers will verify I can tell you it ain't for moving - well, if it does move then my house is also moving and I'll have other things to worry about...

I've already learnt a lot from trawling posts on this great forum so a very big thank-you to all contributors and moderators. When I get my darkroom looking half decent I'll post some photographs.

Regards,
Michael

Hi Michael and welcome to Fadu, My first serious camera was a Zenit B, Built like the proverbail brick outhouse, I moved on to a Praktica, then on to OM, Minolta AF and pentax, now I have moved backwards and today use a variety of MF and 35mm Folders, a couple of Rollei TLR's and other cameras from the 30's to to the late 50's

Welcome to FADU Michael. My first camera was also a Zenit B I kept it for many years but had to finally bin it last year as it no longer functioned. Have fun with your new darkroom.
